Description

SASANIAN KINGS. Bahram (Varhran) IV (388-399 AD). Æ (2.20 gm; 18 mm). Overstruck on an earlier Roman Bronze coin. Bahram's bust turning right with a symbol; similar to Kidarite's Tamgha in front of face / Stand alone fire altar. Bahram IV ran a successful campaign against Kidarites and their Allied Huns who attacked Roman and Persian empires. Kidarites devestated the areas in both empires, their defeat was a temporary retrieve for Sasanian court to pay attention to build fortifications that could stop such attacks in the future. Well struck on anice broad flan. Original green reddish patina. Choice Good VF. Extremely rare.
