Description

SASANIAN KINGS. Yazdgird II. AD. 438-457. PB (Lead) Unit (3.40 gm; 24 mm). Obverse; Yazdgird II with standard crown in squaring circle. Reverse, fire altar with attendants in squaring circle. Both squares in obverse and reverse have large dots in all corners. The squaring of circle is an extremely complex subject in geometry related to Vedic religions as well as their influence in roots of occult and rites from ancient times. It suffices to state that circle typically symbolizes continuity and balance while square represent the four elements of nature: earth, fire, air and water. Lovely strike on a nice broad medallic flan. Choice Good VF / VF. Original earthen patina. Extremely rare-most likely unpublished.
