Description
Terracotta True Cross Token. Byzantine, 630-640 AD. Uniface token, featuring the true Cross with H N E I in the angles (behold the appearance [of the Cross]). Issued on the recovery of the True Cross from the Persians, and is said to have been made with ashes from a fragment of the Cross. 15 mm. Pegasi.106.T.4. Choice, rarest version of these tokens.
