Illuminated Bible Page. France, ca. 1220 AD. Vellum Bible page with Latin in two columns. Elaborate red, blue, and gold capitals including an illumination of Saint. 4”x6” Text: Revelations 21-22 and commentary. The final chapter of the Bible; covering the last page of the Apocalypse with a page of commentary covering evil King Ahaz, the prophet Joel, good king Uzziah, and the prophet Amos. ex. Sir W. Foyle (the bookseller). A few pinholes. Outstanding illumination. Important early commentary on the Apocalypse.
