Britain, North Eastern Region. Corieltavi. Early uninscribed issues. Ca. 50 B.C.-A.D. 1 AR unit (13 mm, 1.35 g, 9 h). Crown Proto Boar type. Boar standing right; above, two elaborate pelleted crescents giving appearance of crown / Horse with large leaf tail left; above, two pellets in ring below a pelleted crescent. ABC 1785; Van Arsdell 864; BMC 3213; SCBC 396. Very rare. Toned. Very fine.

The Corieltavi were a large, wealthy northeastern tribe who were highly advanced and who, according to Van Arsdell, ""used complex privy marks on their coins for die control, weight specification and perhaps even identification of metallurgical content."" Boars feature prominently on the silver units of the Corieltavi.
