Description
Gaul, Massalia. Ca. 150-130 B.C. AR drachm (16 mm, 2.77 g, 4 h). Diademed and draped bust of Artemis to right, bow and quiver at shoulder / [Μ]ΑΣΣ[Α]-ΛΙΗΤΩΝ, lion prowling right; to right, HΓ monogram over Δ. Cf. Depeyrot 37/11 (H over Δ). Great style and well centered. Lightly toned. Good very fine.
Depeyrot records this coin as having H over Δ in the right field of the reverse, but a close inspection of our coin shows that the H is in fact an HΓ monogram.
