Description

A fine Maya Chiefs bowl from El Salvador, c. 400 – 800 AD. This lovely polychrome example is 6-5/8" in diameter and depicts four seated lords making an offering. The interior has four birds, each shown with speech symbols, arrayed around a central Lamat glyph, which represents the eighth day of the ceremonial calendar and is associated with the Heavenly Dragon. Vivid paint, root marks and good mineral deposits. Ex Zelenya estate. Value range: $750 - $800
