Lot 311: ANTIQUITIES, Huacho kero

A choice Huacho kero from Peru, c. 1000 – 1450 AD. This unusually large example is 7-1/4” high and is decorated with a pair of felines. Their finely detailed heads are molded in high relief, with the bodies painted along the rim. The cats are separated by vertical registers of circle designs which mimic mantle ornaments and show the Wari stylistic influence. The red slip is highly burnished and shows extensive mineral deposits. Ex Caravallo collection. Value range: $335 - $400
