Description
CILICIA. Tarsos. Datames, Satrap. 378-372 BC. AR Stater (22mm - 10.39 g). 'BLTRZ' in Aramaic left, Baaltars seated right, torso facing, holding grain ear and grape-bunch in left hand, eagle-tipped scepter in right arm; thymiaterion to right; all within crenelated wall / 'ANA' in Aramaic left, 'TRDMW' in Aramaic in the center, Ana, nude, facing Datames; both have their right arms raised; between them, thymiaterion; all within square square border within linear border. SNG Levante 83 var. (no inscription for Ana); SNG France 2, 298 var. (eagle under throne); SNG von Aulock 5948. Good VF, some light porosity, well struck and nicely centered.
Scarce variety with both Ana's and Datames name on the reverse.
