SASANIAN KINGS. Shapur II, 309-379 AD. AR Obol (0.65 gm; 12 mm). Sunrise 864var. Obverse, Shapur bust turning right with fleur de lis symbol most likely a reference to flower Iris in front of face. Flower Iris is associated with “Khordad Saal” and birth of prophet Zoroaster, abstraction of flower Iris is seen on numerous Achaemenid stone carving specially in Persepolis. Extremely rare issue with extremely rare monogram. Unpublished variety. Not in Sunrise. Choice EF. Lightly toned. Extremely rare.
