SASANIAN KINGS. Yazdgird II, 438-457 AD. Æ (1.25 gm; 14 mm). Monogram of sun or star and dot (full moon) in front of face, reverse, fire altar with attendants. Typically, Sun and the Moon represented the universe as well as dieties of Mithra and Anahit. It is recorded that Shapur II used the title of "Brother of the Sun and the Moon" in his letter to Roman Emperor. Lovely strike on a nice flan. Original find patina. Choice EF. Extremely rare.
