Description
An excellent Chimu bottle from Peru, c. 1100 – 1450 AD. This choice example is 7-1/2” high and is extensively decorated with a shamanic theme. The chamber features two panels depicting a toyo (coastal shark) flanked by a pair of shamans. The bridge of the spout has a molded panel on each side with a series of Moon Dragons, with a nicely detailed monkey clutching the upright section and serpent heads protruding from the base. Nicely burnished, good mineral deposits. Ex Sarmiento collection. Value range: $400 - $500
