Description

A pair of Indus Valley ceramic bowls. The first is a Nal Culture bowl from Baluchistan, c. 2,800 - 2,600 BC, with angled walls and a raised foot, the outside decorated with a lovely geometric motif in deep brown slip, line around the inside of the rim. H: 2 ½” (6.4 cm); Dia: 5 3/8” (13.7 cm). Intact, minor age crack at bottom, light earthen deposits. Inside the bowl is the geometric pattern from another bowl, transferred onto the inner surfaces due to being stacking closely inside one another during the firing. The second vessel is a Harrapan red buff jar, c. 2,500 – 2,000 BC, nicely decorated with a black loop design between parallel lines. H: 2 3/8” (6 cm). Intact with a few minor rim chips and some earthen encrustation on the bottom. Both attractive examples. Ex Los Angeles private collection. Value Range $150 - $250.
