Gaius (Caligula). A.D. 37-41. AE Sestertius (26.50 g, 36.1 mm). Rome mint, struck A.D. 40-41. C CAESAR DIVI AVG PRON AVG P M TR P IIII P P, PIETAS below, Pietas seated left, holding patera and resting left arm on figure standing facing on column / DIVO-AVG S-C, Gaius standing left, holding patera over garlanded altar; one attendant holding bull for sacrifice, the other holding a patera on either side; garlanded hexastyle temple of Divus Augustus in background, pediment decorated with sacrificial scene, quadriga and Victories as acroteria, statues of Romulus and Aeneas along roof line. RIC 51, BMCRE 69. Fine, green patina.
