Description
A Luristan bronze finial in the form of rampant lions, c. 1000 - 800 BC, bodies attenuated, with large heads and necks. The jaws are gaping and flattened on the ends, the eyes protrude as pellets, the tails long and curled at the ends. H: 4 ¼” (10.8 cm). Cf. Moorey, Catalogue of the Ancient Persian Bronzes in the Ashmolean Museum, p. 150, 165 for a similar type. Ex Orange County private collection. Value range $500 - $600.
