Description
TROAS, Abydos. Circa 175-75 BC. Silver Tetradrachm (16.60 gm; 30 mm). Pherenikos. Draped bust of Artemis to right,with bow and quiver over her shoulder. Rev. ABH-?H-NON / FEPENI-KOY Eagle standing right with spread wings; to right, bunch of grapes; all within laurel wreath tied at the bottom. Callataÿ, Abydos sur Aesillas - (D14/R-). SNG von Aulock 7540 var. (arrangement of magistrate's name). From the Vineyard Collection, ex Lanz 112, 25 November 2002, 219. Lovely strike on a nice broad flan. Choice aEF. Nice old-cabinet toning.
