Description
Islands off Thrace, Thasos. Ca. 168/7-148 B.C. AR tetradrachm (33 mm, 16.74 g, 12 h). Head of young Dionysos right, wreathed with ivy / ΗΡΑΚΛΕΟVΣ ΣΩΤΗΡΟΣ ΘΑΣΙΩΝ, Herakles standing facing, head left, resting hand on grounded club and holding lion’s skin draped over arm; monogram in inner left field. Le Rider 51; cf. SNG Copenhagen 1039. Toned, a gfew random peck marks. Very fine.
