ANTIQUITIES, Costa Rica Ceramic Vessel. ca. 1000 – 1350 AD. An excellent Nicoya Trophy Head vessel from Costa Rica, ca. 1000 – 1350 AD. This Mora Polychrome type is 4-3/4” high and depicts an individual with the characteristically stylized facial features and molded crown elements. The intricately woven pattern on the back of the head is typical of this style ceramic and is indicative of a member of the elite. Two little rim dings, else a nice example. Cf. Art of Costa Rica, pages 123 – 125, for other Mora style ceramics from the Sackler collection.
