Description

ANTIQUITIES, Peru, Figural Bottle. ca. 700 - 1300 AD. A fine Lambayeque (Sican) figural bottle from Peru, ca. 700 - 1300 AD. This rare orangeware example is 8-1/4" high and is covered with a cream wash. It depicts Naymlap with tear streaming from his eyes, symbolic of falling rain. The deity is flanked by two figures typically identified as his children, representing the Sican people. A third figure is mounted atop the flat strap handle and serpent heads are emanating from the sides of the spout. Highly unusual to find this type in a painted version.
