Description

PHOENICIA. Akko-Ptolemais (?). Caracalla. 198-217 AD. AR Tetradrachm (26mm - 12.31 g). Struck 215-217 AD. Laureate head right / Eagle standing left on grain ear, holding wreath in beak. Prieur 1580 (Cyprus). VF, toned, nicely centered.

Prieur admits that the attribution of these grain ear issues to Cyrpus is speculative. As they aren't found in Cyprus it seems to be unlikely that they were minted there. The mint of Akko has been suggested by David Hendin. I see some style similarities between this coin and Prieur 1205 from Damascus.
