Description
LICINIUS II, Caesar. 317-324 AD. Æ Follis (20mm - 2.53 g). Arles mint. Struck 321 AD. LICINIVS NOB CAES, laureate head right / CAESARVM NOSTRORVM, VOT/X in two lines within laurel wreath; Qstar in crescentA. RIC VII -. EF, glossy brown patina.
RIC record the reverse legend for 244 (Crispus) and 245 (Constantine II) as VOT/V which is in error, it should read VOT/X. RIC does not record a VOT/X issue for Licinius II. In fact, in 321 the CAESARVM NOSTRORVM issues for both Crispus and Constantine II switch from VOT V to VOT X at all the mints that issued the type, and none of the mints struck VOT X issues for Licinius II. Furthermore, Failmezger on pg. 35 doesn't record any VOT X legends for Licinius II either.
