Description
KINGS of MACEDON. Philip III. 323-317 BC. AR Obol (9mm - 0.86 g). Sidon mint. Dated CY 14 (320/19 BC). Head of Herakles right, wearing lion's skin headdress / Zeus seated left, holding eagle in right hand, scepter in left; X in left field, SI below throne. Price -; Müller -. Good VF/VF, toned., reverse strike a bit weak but controls clear Attractive style obverse.
Price doesn't record any obols for Philip III from Sidon, but there is a hemiobol from this same year (Price P174). The controls on this coin though are a bit unusual. It's possible that instead of SI below the throne there's a EI below the throne, in that case it's apparently unpublished.
