BYZANTINE EMPIRE. Basil I, the Macedonian with Constantine, AD. 867-886. Gold Solidus (4.40 gm; 20 mm). Constantinople mint, circa 868-879. Christ enthroned facing, wearing crossed nimbus, raising right hand in blessing and holding book of Gospels in left hand / Facing busts of Basil, on left. and Constantine, on right, both crowned and wearing loros and chlamys and holding between them patriarchal cross. DOC 2b; Sear 1704; Sommer MBR 33.3. Sharply struck on a nice full flan. Well centered. Superb Extremely Fine with luster.
