Description

An Egyptian New Kingdom terracotta funerary cone, mid-20th Dynasty, late 12th Century BC, the face stamped with four lines of hieroglyphic script in relief reading “Osiris, first prophet of Monthu, Sobek, Anubis, and Khonsu, first scribe of the temple of Monthu, lord Armant, Hatiay”. H: 3 ½” L: 4 ¼” (10.8 cm). Losses to end and edges of face. Ref: Daressy, Recueil de Cones Funéraires, 1892, MMAF, 8, no. 163; Davies and Macadam, A Corpus of Inscribed Egyptian Funerary Cones, 1957, Oxford, no. 471; Cf. Habachi 1965 (JEA 51) for date.
