Description

PERSIA. Achaemenid Empire, Artaxerxes I - Darius II. ca. 450-420 B.C. AR Siglos (5.50 g, 15.3 mm). Persian king in kneeling-running stance right, holding bow and daggar / Rectangular incuse punch, possible letters in incuse. Carradice type IV (early) A, Rosen 678, SNG Kayhan 1035. Fine, scratch on obvserse. I can"t imagine an artist signing the reverse punch of this coin, but there appear to be clear letters running up the left side of the incuse punch. The "letters" are clearly part of the die and not post-strike countermarks. Perhaps a rare type.
