Lot 424: Magnificent 19th century antique Asian statue of Buddha.

Offered is a magnificent 19th century antique Asian statue of Buddha made of a natural Chinese Shoushan stone depicting in very fine details the full body of a cheerful Buddha with beautiful specifications on his face, body, and attire. Shoushan stone carving is an art originated in Fujian Province in eastern China.

 

The stones used in carving are also known as agalmatolite and are mined in the Shoushan village of northern Fujian.

 

This wonderful 19th century antique Chinese Buddha statue is all hand carved, in perfect shape and condition with minor white dots in some parts, measuring 7“ (18 cm) in height, and 3“ (8 cm) in width, weighing 1536 grams.
