Description

A trio of three Kushan sculptures, c. 1st – 3rd century AD. The group consists of a 5-3/8” high figure that portrays a scene from ancient mythology. The larger figure is standing on two legs and is supporting a large basket of fruit in the palm of the hand. There appears to be a monkey clutching the front of the figure, with the monkey’s head obscuring the face. The tail of a large serpent protrudes from in between the legs and coils along the base. There is 4” long nicely detailed bird with long tail feathers and a 4” long feline or sea lion rolled on its side, with teeth visible in the open mouth. All have good mineral deposits on the white stucco dressing. Ex Stuart Bart estate. Value range: $225 - $400
