Description
Seleukid Kingdom. Philip I Philadelphos. 95/4-76/5 B.C. AR tetradrachm (25 mm, 15.52 g, 1 h). Antioch on the Orontes. Diademed head of Philip I right / ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΦΙΛΙΠΠΟΥ ΕΠΙΦΑΝΟΥΣ ΦΙΛΑΔΕΛΦΟΥ, Zeus seated left on throne, holding Nike and scepter; pellet in Nike's wreath. cf. SC 2463.2a (with controls in left field and under throne). Lustrous and lightly toned. Small planchet flaw on cheek. Good very fine.
This coin lacks the usual outer left field controls and the frozen control under the throne.
