Gordian III. A.D. 238-244. Æ sestertius (30 mm, 25.62 g, 12 h). Rome, A.D. 239/40. IMP GORDIANVS PIVS FEL AVG, laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Gordian III right / VIRTVS AVG, S C across fields, Virtus standing facing, head left, holding branch and spear; shield set on ground to left. RIC 293a. Dark brown, almost black patina. Very fine.
