Description
Constantine I. A.D. 307/10-337. Æ follis (18 mm, 2.21 g, 1 h). Siscia, A.D. 319. IMP CONSTANT-INVS AVG, helmeted and cuirassed bust left, holding spear over shoulder and shield decorated with riding over enemies right / VICTORIAE LAETAE PRINC PERP, two Victories standing facing one another, supporting wreath inscribed VOT/PR in two lines over altar; on altar shaft, pellet; BSIS·. RIC 61, note. Rare shield type. Dark brown patina. Nearly extremely fine.
The note to RIC 61 mentions two additional specimens in Vienna with the horseman on the shield, both with the same obverse legend break and from the same officina as our coin.
