Constantius II. A.D. 337-361. AV solidus (22 mm, 4.38 g, 7 h). Constantinople, A.D. 351-355. FL IVL CONSTANTIVS PERP AVGV, diademed, helmeted and cuirassed bust of Constantius II facing, holding spear over shoulder and shield with emperor holding trophy and dragging captive / GLORIA REI-PVBLICAE, Roma, holding spear, seated facing, and Constantinopolis, foot on prow and holding scepter, seated left, on double throne, supporting between them round shield between inscribed VOT / XX / MVLT / XXX in four lines; CONS. Cf. RIC 96 (shield with horseman spearing fallen enemy); Depeyrot 3/3. Unrecorded with this shield type. Pierced. Choice very fine.
