Description
Macedonia, Roman Protectorate. First Meris. Ca. 167-148 B.C. AR tetradrachm (33 mm, 16.78 g, 9 h). Amphipolis. Diademed and draped bust of Artemis right, bow and quiver at shoulder, in central boss of Macedonian shield / ΜΑΚΕΔΟΝΩΝ ΠΡΩΤΗΣ, club; above, N; below, HP monogram; all within oak wreath; in outer left field, thunderbolt. AMNG III/1 166; cf. SNG Ashmolean 3300 (controls reversed). Lightly toned. Nearly very fine.
