Description

Bronze Canaanite/early Israelite Seal, Early Iron Age. (2.08 g, 9.3 x 8.6 mm). This important seal depicts a simple deity in the center with a palm tree on each side. The dots below each tree symbolize the fruits of the palm. There are two important things to note: first, the palm trees surrounding the deity is a theme that was incorporated from Phoenician culture into the Jewish Temple of Solomon. Second, the representation of the palm tree and its fruits as a symbol for Judaea and its agricultural abundance would later be very prevalent on Jewish War coins. This is a very early example of the palm tree being used as a symbol for Palestine. VF, Very attractive dark green patina, nice artistic details.
