The Stoecklin Family Collection was formed over many generations beginning with Sebastian Ros, who was born in Slovenia in 1839 and worked as a civil engineer. He found ancient coins as he helped to lay railway lines throughout the Balkans. Walter Friedrich Stoecklin was born in Bulgaria in 1888 and became a medical doctor working for the Red Cross during the Balkan Wars in 1913, when he met his future wife, Sebastian Ros’s daughter, Jerica, who was a nurse. Walter and Jerica had a son, Walter Mirko Stoecklin, who collected coins with his father and also become a medical doctor in Switzerland 1950. Dr. W. F. Stoecklin died in 1975, and Walter Mirko Stoecklin died in 1981, which ended the Stoecklin family collection.
