Description
Roman. Carnelian intaglio depicting Mars. 1st-3rd centuries A.D. Engraved figure of Mars standing left, a spear leaning diagonally against his far side, holding a crested helmet; a shield set on the ground before him. Dimensions: 11.5 x 15 x 2 mm. Very light surface wear, but otherwise unblemished. Coloration is a light creamy brown highlighting the area of the engraving, the rest a normal deep carnelian-orange. Overall quite attractive.
