Description
Byzantine. A biface personal lead seal. 5th-6th centuries A.D. One side shows a rather plump Athena, although the identification is not certain. She appears to be helmeted and fully draped. She holds two uncertain items in her hands, possibly a thunderbolt and a small figure of Nike or a palladium. A shield is set on the ground at her side. The other side has the name MαP/KOC in two lines above a stalk of wheat. Pierced through for cordage. Light earthen green patina.
