Anonymous Folles. Time of Constantine VIII, 1020-1028. Æ Follis (25mm - 10.20 g). Uncertain mint, possibly Thessalonica. Facing bust of nimbate Christ, pellets in the arms of nimbus, wearing pallium and colobium, holding the Gospels in both hands / +IhSUS/ XRISTUS/bASILEU/bASILE, in four lines; diamonds above and below. DOC III pt. 2, A2.41; SB 1818. EF, choice brown patina, well struck and well centered. One of the finest known of this type. Housed in an NGC holder, graded AU 5/5.
