Description

MANUEL I. 1143-1180. EL Aspron Trachy (33mm - 4.46 g). Constantinople mint. Struck 1160-1164. Nimbate Christ standing facing on footstool, flanked by two stars; MP to left, XC to right / Standing facing figures of Manuel and St. Theodore, both holding swords and supporting a patriarchal cross on globus between them. DOC IV 4 var. (IC to left on obverse, not MP); SB 1959 var. (IC to left on obverse, not MP). Near EF, some striking weakness. Housed in an NGC holder, graded Ch. AU, 4/4.
