Description
Julius Caesar. Late 46-early 45 B.C. Æ dupondius (24 mm, 14.69 g, 12 h). Rome. C. Clovius, prefect. CAESAR · DIC · TER ·, Winged and draped bust of Victory right; behind, star / C · CLOVI PRAEF, Minerva advancing left, holding trophy over shoulder and spears and shield; at feet to left, serpent left. Crawford 476/1a; HCRI 62; Sydenham 1025. Green patina with underlying tones of brown, attractive light earthen deposits around the devices. Quite nice. Very fine.
