Macedon. First Meris. Ca. 167-148 B.C. AR tetradrachm (31 mm, 16.69 g, 3 h). Amphipolis. Diademed and draped bust of Artemis right, bow and quiver at shoulder, in central boss of Macedonian shield / ΜΑΚΕΔΟΝΩΝ ΠΡΩΤΗΣ, club; above, monogram; all within oak wreath; in outer left field, thunderbolt. SNG Ashmolean -; SNG Copenhagen -; AMNG III/1 163. Extremely rare control for this issue. Very fine.

Of nearly 1000 First Meris tetradrachms examined on various online search engines, we were able to find only one other specimen of this control variety (see Coin Galleries, 28 April 2010, 101).
