Q. Caecilius Metellus. 130 B.C. Æ quadrans (19 mm, 4.90 g, 5 h). Rome. Head of Hercules right, wearing lion's skin headdress; behind, three pellets / Q (ME)(TE) above, ROMA in exergue, prow of galley right; before, three pellets. Crawford 256/4a; Sydenham 510b; BMCRR 1061. Brown patina. Good fine.

A duplicate from the RBW Collection of Roman Republican Coins. Purchased privately from Baldwin's, June 1981.

Although Crawford notes several different legend variations of the moneyer's name, he does not note this specific variety. Sydenham, however, does mention it.
