Yaudheya tribe. 1st century B.C. Æ (20 mm, 3.56 g). Bahudhanake type, Class 2. Bull standing right with yupa (sacrificial post) to right, with Brahmi legend Yaudheyanam Bahudhanake around / Elephant standing right with trunk raised. Pieper 1110; Devendra Handa, Tribal Coins of Ancient India, ppl. XL-XLI. Nicely struck on a full flan. Scarce and choice. Brownish-tan patina with heavy deposits on reverse. Very fine.

The Yaudheyas were a powerful tribe in north India, famous for their martial skills. They issued copper coins for over 400 years - the Bahudhanake type coins are one of their earliest issues.
