Description

Kujula Kadphises. Ca. A.D. 30-80. Æ drachm (19 mm, 4.99 g). Laureate head right in Roman emperor style, with blundered Greek legend around / Zeus seated left on high-backed throne, with monogram to right and Kharoshthi legend around, Maharajasa mahatasa Heramayasa (of Great King Hermaeus the Great). ANS Kushan 125-30; HGC 12, 310. Rare. A pleasing specimen with clear details. Partially cleaned surfaces, crude strike. Very fine.

This reduced Indian standard copper unit circulated in the Begram region. It is an early Kushan copy of the Indo-Greek tetradrachm of Hermaios.
