Description
6th century A.D. Potin unit (17 mm, 0.89 g). Conch with dotted border / Blank. Cf. Ganesh 5.57-5.58. An attractive specimen, nicely struck on a broad flan. One of just a few large-flan varieties known. Rare and choice. Dark brown patina, earthen highlights. Good very fine.
This rare type has been attributed to the Kadamba dynasty as the conch was the Kadamba symbol. The conch type usually comes on a small flan, but our specimen is much larger. Ganesh records only two large specimens.
