Description

Munnabih. Ca. 912/3. AR dramma (10 mm, 0.49 g). Sharda legend (Sri) Adi/(va)raha / Arabic legend Lillah Munnabih at bottom, with three-dot motif above. Goron & Goenka, AM1; Album 1503. Rare and superb. Toned. Choice very fine.

Most drammas of the amirs of Multan are on thinner, broader flans. This type seems much rarer, for all rulers.

Munnabih takes the title Sri Adivaraha, drawing on the boar avatar of Lord Vishnu. This name also refers to the powerful Gurjura-Pratihara ruler Bhoja I (836-885 AD), who used the name Adivaraha on his coins.

A similar specimen sold for $120 in Stephen Album's Auction 28 (Lot 2123).
