Description

Ratna Deva. Ca. 1120-1135. AV 1 1/8 masha (13 mm, 0.89 g, 5 h). Stylized lion right atop a stylized elephant right / Two-line Devanagari legend: Srimad Ra / tna Deva. Deyell 130. Very rare. Good very fine.

Ex Dr. Kurt Aterman Collection; F.J. Rath FPL 10 (1979), 5.

There is some confusion over the motif on the obverse of this series. Mitchiner has identified it as a head over an elephant. However, the best coins show clearly that a lion atop an elephant is intended, and the stylization of that motif can be seen in less clear coins such as this one.
