Description
Balban. 1266-1287. BI dugani (17 mm, 3.53 g). A bilingual issue with the sultan's name Balban in Arabic in the centre, with a circular Nagari legend Sri Sultan Gayasadin around. This was meant for the sultan's Hindu subjects.. Goron & Goenka D165. A choice specimen, quite rare with the complete Nagari circular legend..
Balban restored the flagging fortunes of the newly-established Delhi Sultanate. His long reign saw the return of administrative order after the chaos under the preceding sultans. He established a strong bureaucracy and spy network to keep control of the Islamic empire.
