Description

Bhanudeva IV. 1414-1434. AV fanam (11 mm, 0.45 g, 8 h). RY 17 (ca. 1427/8). Stylized bull couchant right on a platform, with prominent horns above, conch before with single dots above and below, chakra above, dot below / Stylized letter sa, for samvat (year), flanked by goad and battle axe, Anka date 17 (=RY 13-14) below, legend sri rama above . Cf. MNI 677; P. Tandon, ""Tentative Attributions of some gold fanams of the Eastern Gangas,"" Numismatic Digest, 34-35, 5.26 (this coin). Although still quite rare, these coins were virtually unattainable until the recent appearance of a small hoard.

The legend sri rama on the reverse was introduced by Narasimha IV.
