Description
Antoninus Pius. A.D. 138-161. AR denarius (18 mm, 3.27 g, 6 h). Rome, A.D. 151/2. IMP CAES T AEL HADR ANTONINVS AVG PIVS P P, laureate bust of Antoninus Pius right, slight drapery on far shoulder / PIETAS in exergue, TR POT XIIII [C-O]S IIII, Pietas standing facing, head right, holding fore-legs of hind which stands on its hind legs, and dish of fruits; to right, altar. Cf. RIC 201 (head); cf. BMC 735 (same); cf. RSC 616 (same). Unpublished variety with drapery. Lightly toned. Very fine.
