Iron Door Latch Mechanism. Crusader or Byzantine, ca. 1300 AD. Iron lock plate with sliding bolt. Designed for use with a slide key. One nail remains of installation on wood door. See Medieval Houshold 274-8 for similar. Some bits broken or missing. Iron stabilized with brown patina. Very rare.
